I am delighted to launch the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians Scientific Conference to be held in beautiful Wellington, New Zealand from Thursday November 9 – Sunday November 12, 2023.
Following on from the great success of Adelaide, the College has convened a world class line up of expert keynote speakers in Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) as well as some terrific practical clinical sessions facilitated by leaders in their fields. This year, we are thrilled to have Professor Jonathan Drezner, Director of the Centre for Sports Cardiology at the University of Washington as our key note speaker. Professor Drezner is also the current editor in chief of the British Journal of Sports Medicine and it will be an incredible opportunity to have him at the conference.
Significantly, this year we are partnering with Sports Medicine New Zealand (SMNZ) and the joint program has influenced the 2023 theme – Partnership – Collaboration – Performance.
This theme highlights our belief in the important and necessary collaboration and partnerships that continue to improve the SEM landscape and its growing influence in the treatment of all areas of activity, not just elite sport. With this in mind, in partnership with SMNZ, the program will include a range of medical, musculoskeletal, ethical and other key topics in SEM. Additionally, We will also run some specialist sessions including the treatment of Cardiology issues run by Professor Drezner and major joint examination sessions that are open to all.
Of course, ACSEP will also provide highlights of some of the our signature work including the world class SEM Academy and the Moving Medicine platform.
Our highly popular practical courses and workshops including the Management of Sports Trauma (MOST) course, Musculoskeletal Ultrasound for Sport and Exercise Physicians Course and the workshops for conservative treatment of low back pain incorporating Lumbar Spine, Sacroiliac joint issues will also be offered in the two days leading up to the Scientific Conference.
This is a unique opportunity for the global SEM community; Sport and Exercise Physicians, Sports Doctors, General Practitioners, Registrars, Medical Students, Allied Health providers and other specialties to meet face to face.
