Dr Tony Galvin is remembered by Hockey WA and Hockey Australia (Dec 7, 2022):
Hockey WA is saddened to hear of the passing of Hockey Australia Life Member and Award of Merit recipient Dr. Tony Galvin.
Dr. Galvin showcased immense passion and commitment not only the sport of hockey, often called upon to give his assistance to treat athletes from other sports.
The team doctor for the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos at several World Cups, Dr. Galvin’s involvement with the nation’s top hockey teams spanned two decades.
Dr. Galvin was not only a wonderful doctor, but also a wonderful person – a delight to both players and officials.
Dr. Galvin received a Hockey Australia Award of Merit in 2001, while also receiving Life Membership last year.
The Board and staff at Hockey WA along with the broader hockey community extends our sincere condolences to Dr. Galvin's family and friends.
Hockey Australia is saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Tony Galvin. Tony was the voluntary Kookaburras and Hockeyroos doctor at four consecutive Olympics from 1984 to 1996.
Always giving of his time and expertise, Tony was also often called upon to treat athletes or officials from other sports.
He was also the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos team doctor at several World Cups, his involvement with Australia’s national hockey teams spanning two decades. Not only an outstanding doctor, Tony was a wonderful person and excellent communicator with both players and officials.
He received a Hockey Australia Award of Merit in 2001, before becoming a Life Member last year. Tony will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
