In the daily training environment, we place carefully chosen teams of experts from health, sports science, technology and innovation around elite athletes and coaches, and through a holistic and collaborative approach with NSOs, provide the support to maximise individual athlete development and performance potential.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Sports Doctor to lead the Nationwide strategy, technical direction, and delivery of medicine to high performance athletes and campaigns within National Sporting Organisation's performance pathways.
The successful candidate will be based in one of our two larger hubs (Auckland or Waikato) and have responsibility for medical care nationwide through a centralised model of health, such that athletes benefit from early interventions, illness and injury prevention, health education and promotion and a prioritisation of health across all campaigns.
This role will work with allied disciplines to evolve the approach and ensure a sustainable and holistic operating model for health, aligned to the future strategy of the New Zealand sporting system.
The role will fulfil a technical advisory to peak bodies of Paralympics New Zealand and the New Zealand Olympic Committee to ensure continuity of athlete health care from daily training environments into the pinnacle events.
Successful candidate will have experience of leading teams in diverse healthcare settings and demonstrate ability to implement system strategy. Previous experience of health surveillance and reporting health insights across areas such as athlete mental health, anti-doping, safeguarding, concussion, and travel health will be valuable in this role.
The successful candidate will have a medical degree and registered to work in New Zealand, with a postgraduate qualification in Sport Medicine and at least five years' experience working within high-performance environments, ideally in an international or professional sporting institution.
In addition, you must be a strategic thinker and problem solver, adept at operating and delivering effectively in complex environments; have exceptional communication skills and be highly effective in stakeholder relationship building.
Full-time position, 40 hours per week, but we are open to exploring part time or flexible working applications.
