The Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians (ACSEP) is deeply committed to the health of Indigenous people, in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. As a medical college, we recognise the importance of improving the health of all Indigenous people, and our important role in health care as Sport and Exercise Physicians. We also understand that we have work to do to improve the Indigenous voice within our College and to ensure that it is heard at all levels of our organisation.
We recognise that the referendum in Australia is a matter for individuals, and we also recognise the diversity of opinions surrounding the Voice. The ACSEP board have sought the advice of our Indigenous leaders in our Indigenous Health Advisory Committee (IHAC), who we listen to and respect on Indigenous matters.
The board of the ACSEP supports the "Voice to Parliament" with the expectation that it contributes to improving health outcomes, self-determination, and opportunity for Indigenous Australians.
